Day 4 (VBT Day 1): 6/11/22

Today was the first day of the VBT bike trip.

We had a couple of hours in the morning before getting on the bus, and that gave me some time to get caught up with the blog.

We got into a coach for two-hour drive to our start, Collemezzano. The drive took a little longer because the driver didn't know where he was going and made a couple of wrong turns.

But we arrived and met the tour leaders, Michole and Alessandra. The tour guides do it all: take care of the guests, prep the bikes, drive or ride the course, and trouble shoot logistics. It is not the first time we have had two female tour guides and it is pretty cool to have women who can ride and would likely drop us in a group ride.

VBT upgraded their bikes since the last time we rode with them. They still use Fujis, this time a C5 carbon with 105 components and a huge 11-34 cassette and a 50-34 chainring. I also think they look pretty sharp.

The place we were staying at is an Agritourismo, a government designation for a working farm that hosts guests. It is in Collemezzano.

The owner is Luigi and he makes wine. He gave us a tour of his operation and a tasting. I got pretty buzzed after 1.5 glasses of white and pretty much skipped the two reds.

He didn't say what the stainless steel tanks were for.

'The first ride of the tour was a "warm-up" ride, 8 miles, pretty flat. The wind was blowing pretty hard. It was nice to feel it at our backs.
